Kayswitch ‘D Produkt Biography

Born as Kehinde Oladotun Oyebanjo on February 12th, 1985 , in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, Kayswitch ‘D Produkt’, originally from Shagamu, Ogun State, attended Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Abeokuta, Ogun State. His interests spanned from the science of computer to oil and gas and even screen writing, but his greatest passion was music. He began his journey into music in secondary school, where he used to rap with his friends for fun. Rapping gradually became a part of him and later singing and songwriting. Infuenced by the likes of Sizzla Kalonji, Jay-z, Talib Kweli, Youssou N’dour, his greatest musical influence was his older brother, D’Banj, who played a major role in KaySwitch’s love and passion for music and entertainment . Kayswitch ‘D Produkt’ spent a lot of time with his brother D’Banj and gradually developed his own musical style and direction, but it was not until his first encounter with the mic in 2005 while recording a track with his friend Dr. Frabz in the studio that he decided to take up music professionally.
His past affiliation with Mohits Records, formed by his older brother, D’Banj and DonJazzy,  gave him the time to develop his skills in the studio, and become a highly skilled recording and performing artist. From the US to the UK, India, Asia, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Turkey, Dubai and many more countries around the world, KaySwitch ‘D produkt’ has toured with his brother D’Banj and also performed at major shows such as the Thisday Show, StarMega Jam , koko concert and Calabar festival.

His music is a reflection of his calm and urban style as well as his eccentricity. KaySwitch believes in being the best in whatever he does in life and looking outside the box by creating something unexpected and different. He lives by the saying “send on” which he interprets as “bringing on blessing and good things to come” KaySwitch ‘D Produkt’ is most definitely a force to be reckoned with in the music world.

LOLA RAE BIOGRAPHY

Rachel Funmilola Garton aka “Lola Rae” [Facebook link], a 21 year-old British singer of Nigerian/Ghanian and British Heritage with high aspirations combined with a great amount of talent and potential to match. Lola Rae garnered national recognition as a dancer in the Street dance group “Myztikal” that competed in (GWI Street dance champions 2008 U18 Champions). It wasn’t until Myztikal auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2010 when her singing prowess was brought to the stage, with Simon Cowell singling her out at both the audition and semi-final stage that Lola Rae began to believe her dreams could become reality. Since then, rather than go down the conventional route to XFactor– where an option had been offered to Rachel by Syco for an audition, she instead decided that she’d greater benefit from finding herself as an artist and deciding what she wanted to be, as opposed to a mould being created for her.

Building up a catalogue of songs, her first singles being an up tempo dance track title "Watch My Ting Go" and High ft Bridge (LOS) amongst other recordings. Recently she starred in Panshak Zamani's "More" video as the singers love interest.
Lola Rae’s strengths lie in her jazzy and soulful feel, comparable to the vibe given off by greats such as Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse. Despite comparisons, Lola Rae ultimately prides herself in her uniqueness and it would certainly be wrong to box her solely into the typical jazz & soul mould. Working with producer P2J, she has found her voice offers versatility and her sound should not be put in one simple category.

DA WORKS PRODUCTION - MEDDI RIDDIM
Contrary to other contemporary musics like hip hop and EDM, reggae culture is hyper-aware of its rich musical history, and Meddi Riddim is a good example of how this history lives on through current releases. With a feel-good vibe, Meddi incorporates the earthiness and laid back tempo of roots reggae while employing a danceable bounciness that can be traced through 80’s and 90’s dancehall back to early reggae of the late 60’s. In other words, this riddim (and reggae/dancehall/riddim culture in general) is timeless and will fit right in at the local dance whether selectors in your part of the world prefer vintage reggae/dancehall, contemporary reggae/dancehall, or a mix of the two.  Da Works are a bit of a mystery, referenced as Da Works Production, Da Works Music, and Da Works Enternational in various places throughout the internet.

With very little available information and even an uncertainty about what the label is called, there are only a few things that can be said about this album with any reliability: Meddi Riddim is Da Works’ first juggling to be released to a broad audience and it is an extraordinarily strong project, especially for a first release.

Part of what makes Meddi a strong first juggling for Da Works is the lineup of artists included in the release. However the roster is also unnecessarily large at eighteen total contributors, and a riddim album of this size can be intimidating to listeners who are not accustomed to hearing the same beat played on a loop.

Those dedicated enough to sift through the heft of theMeddi release will find some gems from popular artists - Anthony B’s Don’t Stop Trying, Turbulence’s Love You Always, and Give Thanks To Life from “One Blood” Junior Reid, whose long anticipated The Living Legend album also dropped in August. Dig just a little deeper and find many more quality tunes from talented, but slightly lesser-known reggae artists like Bascom X,Chezidek, Chrisinti, Mr. Perfect, Junior X, and Zamunda.

EMPIRE SEASON 2 PRIMIER [SEPTEMBER 23 2015]

Created by Lee Daniels (The Butler), “Empire” follows hip-hop mogul Lucious Lyon (Terence Howard) as he battles with a terminal disease and tries to get one of his three sons, Jamal, Hakeem and Andre, to take over his music empire. Let’s not forget his ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), straight out of prison ruffling feathers as she struts her stuff. Throw in guest appearances by A-listers Jennifer Hudson, Courtney Love and Cuba Gooding Jr., a killer soundtrack, under the musical direction of Timbaland, and you have a winning formula.
You can always catch up on season one by searching “empire” right here on the site, but to refresh your memory [spoiler alert]  season one concluded with Jamal coming out and taking reign over the Empire; Lucious’ disease ended up being not so terminal and he headed to jail [end of spoiler]. Enter season two: with more guest stars (like Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Patti LaBelle, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Rock and Ludacris) already signed on, and did we mention Ne-Yo is teaming up with Timbaland on production? We can’t wait to see what season two, with 18 episodes, has in store for us.
